EV Charger Installation

Electric cars and trucks have taken the world by storm in the past few years. With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), has come the need for electric vehicle charging to keep these electrified cars and trucks moving. If you own an EV, having a dedicated EV charger is a near-necessity. Being able to quickly and easily top up your car overnight means you can head out in the morning without a second thought (or a stop at the gas station).

Cromwell Solar specializes in high tech aspects of electrical services and, unlike most conventional electrical shops, we keep up to date on the latest developments in EV charging. Adding a home or commercial EV charger is straightforward, and we can pair the work with a solar panel installation, or simply add an EV charger to your existing network, no matter where your electricity comes from.

EV Chargers Power An Electrified World

In only a few years, the market for EVs has moved from niche to completely mainstream. These vehicles represent the future of transportation: major automakers are not spending research dollars on combustion engines any longer focusing instead on electric engines. Each year, sales for EVs are shattering previous records, and in 2023 EVs made up about 8% of all new cars/trucks sold in the US. With all these new EVs on the road, EV charging has become much more important, and the technology of chargers is rapidly evolving.

Whether you are a homeowner looking for a single home EV charger, or a business looking at a multiple DC fast chargers for your fleet of electric cars, Cromwell Solar can make the EV charger installation process easy. Cromwell Solar starts with helping you select the type of EV charger that works best for your goals and electrical infrastructure, and then handles all aspects of EV charger installation.

Cromwell Solar can help you determine what kind of charger you need for your electric car or truck. EV chargers are classified into different levels depending on how quickly they can deliver a charge to your vehicle. Level 1 EV chargers run on a home’s standard 120-volt outlets, and can take more than a full day to charge a vehicle. Level 2 EV chargers are connected to your 240-volt outlets, and can charge a typical electric vehicle overnight. We install Level 2 EV chargers in homes, and hard-wire them to your electric panel to seamlessly integrate the chargers to your home electric grid. Cromwell Solar also keeps up to date on the latest high-tech EV chargers available, and we offer the latest technology as it’s available.

Our smart home EV chargers offer control, flexibility, and convenience for your vehicles. You can control when the charge happens to take advantage of less expensive overnight power rates. Home EV chargers offer flexible amperage (power) output, allowing us to install multiple chargers on a single circuit and regulate the power to avoid overloading circuits and prevent more costly service upgrades. Home EV chargers can be installed wherever you want, and can be controlled easily from your smartphone, giving you the power to choose how and when charging takes places.

Commercial EV Chargers

Many businesses now offer EV charging for customers or employees, or require large-scale commercial EV charging for their own fleets. Home EV Charging Rebates and Incentives

Cromwell Solar has deep experience with the EV charger tax credits and rebates available right now. Right now there are many incentives for installing a home EV charging station, including tax credits and utility rebates, that can significantly lower the cost of an installation.

The Federal Tax Credit for Home EV Chargers

Like solar panels, home EV chargers are eligible for a 30% federal tax credit, though with a few limitations. The tax credit will cover 30% of the total cost of EV charger hardware and installation up to a maximum of $1,000. There are also now some geographic limitations, imposed in January 2024, to the EV charger tax credit. The credit now will only apply to geographic areas with less EV infrastructure — specifically lower income and less-urban census tracts. More information on home EV charger tax credit qualification can be found in this map.

Rebates for Home EV Chargers

Additionally, many utilities have rebates for EV home charger installation available now. For instance, Evergy offers a rebate worth $500 in Missouri and $250 in Kansas for the installation of approved EV home chargers. This rebate is changing and may soon come with more strings attached, so now is the time to invest in a fast and convenient smart Level 2 EV home charger in Kansas or Missouri.

Other utilities in Kansas and Missouri also have rebates for EV chargers. Cromwell Solar is familiar with the utilities in our area, and will help ensure you receive any available rebate for EV charger installation you are entitled to.

Commercial EV Charging Rebates and Incentives

Currently, a number of financial incentives for EV charger installation are available for businesses (including nonprofits), including rebates directly from utilities and tax credits from the federal government. These incentives may soon disappear, however, meaning you should act quickly to maximize your savings for EV charger installation.

At Cromwell Solar we are experts in commercial EV charger rebates and EV charger tax credits, and we can help select solutions that maximize your incentives. Importantly, EV charger rebates and tax credits work the same whether the electricity is provided free or if you are charging users for the electricity using a built-in payment system.

An EV charger utility rebate example in both Kansas and Missouri is the Evergy commercial EV charger rebate. It gives a business up to $2500 for each Level 2 charger they install, up to a total of $25,000. In Missouri, another significant EV charger rebate comes from Ameren Electric, which pays back up to 50% of the total cost of installing commercial Level 2 chargers up to a maximum incentive of $90,000. Other Kansas and Missouri utilities also offer EV charger rebates — ask us about what incentives may be available for you. Some restrictions exist in all utility rebates and tax credits.

The Federal Tax Credit for EV Chargers

The federal tax credit for commercial EV charger installation is worth 30% of the total cost for hardware and installation costs up to a maximum amount of $100,000. This EV charger tax credit is also eligible for “direct pay” from the IRS meaning that non-profits including churches, non-profit organizations, and local, state, or tribal governments may qualify.

The EV charger tax credit was amended in January of 2024 to restrict it to certain geographic areas; basically the tax credit is moving to only apply to geographic areas with less EV infrastructure — specifically lower income and less-urban census tracts. More information on home EV charger tax credit qualification can be found in this map.
